Pissed Jeans April 2023 newsletter
Wow, have we got some news for you! Of course, there’s a good chance you’ve already been subjected to our relentless social-media promotion over the past couple weeks and know what’s up, but even if so, please read on anyway! I wrote this especially for you.
First and foremost, we’re happy to announce the release of our No Convenient Apocalypse seven-inch single on Sub Pop Records! It’s available for ordering here, set for release on May 19th. The song originally appeared deep within the Cyberpunk video game a couple years ago (confusingly under a different name and title), but we’ve been dying to share it properly and are thrilled to do so now. A real muscly bruiser of a tune that’s streaming in all the usual digital estuaries as well as good ol’ YouTube:
For those interested in a more permanent form of ownership, the seven-inch single is limited to a thousand copies (no repress!) and is backed by a live version of “Bathroom Laughter”, recorded in an antique mall1 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. It devolves gloriously, someone else plays the drums at the end, all in all a beautiful example of our commitment to bad-idea improvisation live on stage. Bill Nace drew the cover, dark green vinyl… not sure what else you could possibly want!
Wait… you said you wanted shows? Well we’re gonna play a few of those too! It’s not the exhaustive fifty-state extravaganza you’ve been hoping for, but it’s something, and it sure will be nice to get out to the Midwest after a number of years. (Chicago was the last place we played prior to the Coronavirus, and it’s such a sweet memory of the before-times.) Best of all, we’ve got some pretty stacked lineups, and are extremely excited to be bringing two top-shelf acts from right here in Philadelphia along with us: Carnivorous Bells and Kilynn Lunsford. Check the dates and click the links for tickets:
Thu. Jun. 01 - Cambridge, MA - Sonia w/ Carnivorous Bells, ICU
Fri. Jun. 02 - Hamden, CT - Space Ballroom w/ Carnivorous Bells, Intercourse
Sat. Jun. 03 - New York, NY - Le Poisson Rouge (In The Round) w/ Carnivorous Bells, Shop Talk
Thu. Jun. 15 - Pittsburgh, PA - Thunderbird Cafe & Music Hall w/ Kilynn Lunsford, Speed Plans
Fri. Jun. 16 - Chicago, IL - Subterranean w/ Kilynn Lunsford, Daddy’s Boy
Sat. Jun. 17 - Detroit, MI - El Club w/ Kilynn Lunsford, Zilched
Sun. Jun. 18 - Cleveland, OH - Grog Shop w/ Kilynn Lunsford, Woodstock ‘99
Phew! I don’t know about your body but mine’s gonna need a long hot epsom-salt bath after all that.
Much more to discuss (yes, we just recorded a new album too!), but we can save that for a later date when we’re not all super excited about the single and the shows. Let’s wrap it with Brad’s YouTube pick of the month:
There are a few late ‘60s videos of Arthur Brown performing “Fire”, but I think this one is my absolutely favorite. Each of them are a bit disturbing in their own right. This performance from the BBC is not lip-synced and is just wild. I wish I had those moves.
See you in June!
It’s a mall that sells antiques, but the mall itself is probably also an antique at this point too.
