Hello friends! Welcome to the first-ever Pissed Jeans email newsletter.
Traditionally, Pissed Jeans has been neglectful communicating with our audience beyond playing shows and putting out records. I don’t think we’ve ever had a MySpace; the photos on our official website haven’t been updated since 2006; and it was only a few years ago that we found a way to take over the Pissed Jeans Facebook page that some other guy originally made (I think we sent a polite message asking for it and he mercifully obliged). Just in time for Facebook’s obsolescence! Instagram can be fun, but even that can feel pretty gross or pointless for an increasing number of reasons. Rather than rely on the mercy of the proprietary Meta™ algorithms to let people know when we have a show coming up or new shirt or whatever, directly emailing you, the Pissed Jeans Enthusiast, seemed like it could be fun. And if not, well, at least we finally tried something!
So, updates! We just played the Metro Gallery in Baltimore with Cumgirl8. They were great! Much respect for any band that wears their costumes even whilst on crutches. Following a few out-of-town gigs earlier this year (Austin, London, Atlantic City and New York), we don’t have any shows booked at the moment, but don’t fret! We’ll get something on the books soon. We were offered a slot on a package tour this fall that is basically Brad’s eighth grade dream lineup, but we could only commit to like a week or so of the dates (you know our style) and we’re waiting to hear back whether they’re willing to include us for a partial stretch of the tour or not. That’s all we can say for now, except that it’s sadly not Crowbar, Do Or Die and Snapcase, Brad’s other eighth grade favorites.
Besides that, we’ve been working on new songs for a new record! No dates set or anything yet, but we’re doing another album on Sub Pop for sure, and I’d say we’re more than 50% done writing, which is a nice feeling. The songs are sounding great - we still sound the same, just hopefully a little better than ever before. Some of the tunes are vaguely reminding us of Dug Dug’s, Cramps, Cro-Mags, Hüsker Dü, The Girls (Boston) and X (Australia), not that anyone else would necessarily hear any of that in them. We’ve been playing a few new ones out live, so you tell us?
In more athletic news, we’ve finally entered the foray of extreme sports care of this slick skateboard deck! Our friends at Lost Soul Skateboards did a one-time run of fifty Pissed Jeans skate decks, and once they’re gone, they’re gone. Pick one up here! Two members of Pissed Jeans have successfully landed kickflips in their lifetimes but in order to protect the innocent we will not reveal which.
In personal Pissed Jeans news, Sean has opened the Garden Bar at Puck with some other nice folks over in Doylestown, PA! About an hour outside of Philadelphia, it’s the hottest thing that town has seen since Siren Records opened however many decades ago. Look at how pretty it looks in the pic above! I’m getting thirsty just thinking about it. Head over to their Instagram page for all the info you’d ever need on hours of operation, drink specials, and DJ schedules. Who knows, one of the other Jeans might play some records there before the summer is through!
Speaking of other Jeans, Randy played his first solo show in what must be more than a decade(!) at Brickbat Books in Philadelphia last month, acoustic six- and twelve-string jams that tantalized all in attendance. And he wasn’t even remotely wasted! Let’s hope we get more out of him soon, but in the meantime you can peep his personal Bandcamp page to hear some of his solo tunes.
Matt is still writing monthly record reviews over at Yellow Green Red, and Brad is busy riff-crafting and scouring the darkest corners of YouTube for sick live sets, which will also become a recurring feature of the Jeans newsletter. Here’s his first pick:
I probably spend too much time searching out live performances of bands I enjoy. While my preference is ten to fifteen seconds clips with no context, I’ll be sharing a full video or two I enjoy with you each month. The first of anything is challenging, so I’m defaulting to a classic and favorite of mine (other than the WrestleRock Rumble). It’s the Birthday Party performing “Junkyard” in 1982. This is without a doubt my favorite Birthday Party song and this is my favorite version of it. The performance is so abrasive and delivered with such confidence, that it feels like you are in the room with them. Till next time!
Alright, that’s plenty for now. Hope For Men turned fifteen years old this month (yikes!), so we’ll talk more about that next time. Thanks for reading, and if you had fun here with us, please click the green box below to spread the word!
